Soldiers Reunited with Their Dogs

One of the most heartwarming things to watch is the reunion between a military service member and their dogs. When soldiers are stationed away from home, they leave their families, spouses, children, and homes. They also have to leave their best canine buddies behind. All of us who love our pets know how hard it can be to be away from our dogs. Perhaps that is why these reunions bring us to happy tears; we can only imagine how hard it would be to be away for months or years at a time.

What touches our hearts isn't just the love our military service people have for their dogs but also how much love the dogs have for them. Dogs who have been separated from their owners for months or years instantly remember their best friends. Videos show long separated dogs reuniting with service people and leaping into their owner's arms, crying, and covering their faces with kisses. It's a beautiful "OMG You're Home" moment.

Susan Daylida from Newville, PA, took care of U.S. Army master sergeant Ryan Slough's dog, Kenny.

In the Philadelphia Inquirer, she describes their reunion this way, "Kenny stopped dead in his tracks and looked at Ryan like he couldn't believe it was really him. Then he raced towards him, licking his face and wagging his tail," she said. "It brought tears to my eyes."

For many military families, the love of a dog can go deep. The demands that being in the armed services require can be hard on a family. Knowing their faithful companion is at home waiting becomes even more important as those serving in the military make sacrifices to ensure our freedoms. When those serving in the military reunite with their dogs, the love between them is a beautiful thing to see.
